But look
behind the appearance and there’s something else that seems different about
Novaar. The Cyberstar gives a clue to the fact that Novaar doesn’t lack of
confidence. Indeed, it’s that confidence that has entertained and outraged
people in equal measure. However, there’s more to it than simple bravado.
There’s a cold, direct control now in the way that Novaar speaks to you. The
fire is still there but, just like his symbol, Novaar now seems to have as much
as ice in his veins as anything else.
(PWI) “Hi
Novaar…thanks for agreeing to the interview.”
(N) “It’s my
pleasure.”
(PWI) “Well,
it’s been three months since we last saw you…at the end of your match with Rob
Arnold.”
(N)
“Correct.”
(PWI) “Some
people said that you’d been injured, that Arnold
had hurt you more than you let on at the PPV…”
(N) “And that
just goes to show what you get for believing rumour other fact. Rob Arnold is a
gifted opponent. One of the best I have ever faced. However, what you saw at
the Pay-Per-View was what you got. Bumps, bruises, some cuts but nothing that I
haven’t had a hundred times before. No, as you now know I was adjustments done
to ears.”
(PWI) “I have
to ask about those. They are very…Elvish!”
(N) “Again,
you’re amazingly correct in your observation of the obvious!”
(PWI)
“So…why?”
(N, with a
twisted smile on his face) “To match those of my ancestors, the Quendi.”
(PWI) “That’s
right…last time out your gimmick was…”
(N, in a
stern voice) “It was NOT a gimmick.”
(PWI) “Er,
sorry. Last time out you claimed that you were a prince of the royal line of
Atlantis, of the bloodline of the Quendi, who you believe came from…”
(N) “From
Alfheim.”
(PWI) “So you
were not just a prince but also the human descendent of an alien line!”
(N) “It is
more than a mere claim. It is fact. The more I have looked into this. The more
my visions have shown me. The clearer it has become. I am not only of their
bloodline but I am a mutant, with DNA from both those sides in perfect balance.
Rather than some offspring with a small drop of the Quendi in him.”
(PWI) “Ooook,
you have to admit that it’s a big ask!”
(N) “I ask nothing
least of all that you believe. Accept what I say. Don’t accept it. It matters
little to me. I know the truth. I have consumed the dragon blood’s brew. I have
eaten the feral heart. I have withstood the flames of the phoenix. The dragon
of ice, the bird of flame both guide me, just as light and dark show me my
path. The sacrifice I made, at the Reunion
show was just part of what I have become.
That’s why
Rob Arnold was always going to fail. Like you, Arnold struggled to understand the grander
plan. Arnold
could not see the biggest picture of them all. That is why he never won the
match at Reunion. I gave it to him. I gave him
the match to win the bigger battle!”
(PWI) “It was
a grand plan. Indeed, some people have mentioned how much it reminds them of
the sort of plan that has become the trademark of your friend and mentor, David
Shand.”
(N) “He who
fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if
you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”
(PWI) “Excuse
me?”
(N)
“Nietzsche. It illustrates that he who fights monsters is doomed to become one
himself. Or has they put it in the Chronicles of Riddick, there are times when
to fight a great evil you need a different type of evil…
As for David
Shand let me make this very clear: we are no longer friends. We will never
again be friends. There have been ups. There have been downs. But never
anything like this. You have to draw a line. I have done so. My business with
Shand may not be finished but my friendship is.”
(PWI) “Your
business with Shand isn’t finished…what do you mean by that?”
(N) “I will
not discuss that. Not yet. But I will tell you one thing. I DID learn a great
deal from David. I would be a liar to say that I did not. In many ways Shand’s
own downfall will come from how much he showed me. But my plan for Reunion…that was all my own. The path I now walk on. That
is my own. Nobody put me here, save for my own thoughts and visions. So think
what you will. See David Shand in my work. I no longer care. Novaar no longer
cares…”
